I have been thinking about signing up for a game service, but most of the reviews I have read complain about both. Seems most of the people who are willing to pay for this type of service come from having used Netflix. Netflix has their act together. It’s a great service. Gamefly & Gottaplay apparently are leaving a lot of customers dissatisfied.

Summarized, here are the responses:

Gamefly: Horrible long travel times to and from the distribution centers.
Gottaplay: Very limited selection.

Any advice? I don’t know if it’s worth the $$.

Stabucks just released Pike Place roast, which is a milder coffee than their usual fare, along with a fairly big marketing effort which includes new signage and new cups.

PikePlaceRoast

Apparently they’ve hit some kind of glass ceiling and want to punch through. From slashfood:

Yesterday, in response to critics who say that their beans are over-roasted, they introduced a new roast called Pike Place, named after the iconic market in Seattle, the city where they first started out.

$129 for .1?

leopard_box_125 Why does apple release what any other vendor would consider a service pack, and then charge full price for it?

For example: Is the difference between 10.4 and 10.5 worth $129?

I personally don’t think so.

If you love food and food science this site will quickly become one of your favorites:

www.playingwithfireandwater.com

I was poking around on tastespotting, which I have to warn you can be very addictive, and clicked through on a variety of good pictures when one of them took me to playing with fire and water. I was surprised I hadn’t found it sooner, but it turns out the first posts are only from January of this year… and as far as I can tell the writer’s background wasn’t revealed until just a few days ago.

I wanna draw!

I need some kind of computer whiteboard like application. I keep wanting to draw little diagrams to post on my blog. The closest thing I can think of is how you can draw on webex presentations. I could use MS Paint… but eh… MS Paint blows.

I want to be cool like the UPS nerd.

YES! Whiteboard! Thanks!

I’d also like to be able to add snarky arrows, captions and speech bubbles to images I use.

I’m half tempted to buy a wacom.

Any suggestions?

I’m sorry if that offends you, but I don’t. It’s obvious that Tycho & Gabe are well entrenched in the game scene, but their comic is just… not right. I think the main problem is that the comic is usually so obscure and detailed that the cost of entry is just too high. I like a challenging comic that really makes you think, but Penny Arcade is usually off the scale when it comes to obscure references. I know it’s a problem when the usual process I use to try and puzzle out what the hell is going on is to read that day’s news (the two are usually related). Sometimes the comic then makes sense… sometimes it doesn’t.

One of the problems I’ve had for a long time now is that I have multiple sound sources but want to have only one set of speakers and one set of headphones/headset on my desk. I don’t want to sit here with 3 of each. A couple years ago I had purchased some Bose speakers which had 2 inputs and a dial on the front of the speakers which allowed fading between the two sources. It was a workable solution for 2 computers. Add a 3rd or 4th sound source and it starts to feel … insufficient.

Last October I was getting tired of WoW, but unfortunately there wasn’t much out there that looked like it was going to be a good alternative. WAR was taking it’s sweet time. AoC was being pushed back and back and back. TR was the only thing even looking like it was going to release in 2007.

Flickr Video!

flickr logo I’m going to have to try it out. I’ve been looking for a quality video hosting site for short, good video clips. I hadn’t really thought about it but Flickr is the perfect place to do video too. Right now they only allow 90s long clips, but that may change in the future. After all… it’s their first stab at it. Here’s their blurb about it:

Video on Flickr grew out of the idea of “long photos” and as such, we’ve implemented what might seem like an arbitrary limit of playing back the first 90 seconds of a video. 90 seconds?

Wordpress.com Logo I’ve been slightly frustated with wordpress.com for a while now. Don’t get me wrong… it’s a great site and service, especially because they provide high quality blog hosting for free. I’m just not used to having someone else lock down the amount of control I have over my own site. I suppose technically it’s just a blog service, but for nerds like me it becomes the entire online presence.
