Run run run … car crash!
So my running had been going well. I had started over from scratch and was slowly building up my speed and distance. By starting over from scratch I really mean from scratch. I’m focusing a lot more on running a better pace this time too because when I run faster than a 15 minute mile I’m actually more in a running stance instead of a walking/jogging stance… and it uses my upper leg muscles more than the lower leg muscles (where I’d been having a lot of problems).
Things had been going well until early last week an older guy rammed into the side of my car. I was driving home from work in semi-heavy traffic. I was behind him on one street (3 lanes each direction) and at a red light we both turned right onto another similar street (3 lanes each direction). He pulled into the far right lane, I was in the far left lane anticipating a left turn a couple miles ahead. There weren’t any other cars on our section of road at that time because we had turned while the traffic had a red light during the opposing traffic’s turn signals.
We were pretty much even, driving the speed limit when the accident started. For some reason he, without looking, decided to try and make a u-turn. As he crossed the middle lane I noticed his steep angle of attack and tried to avoid by pulling into a turn lane on the left and slamming on my brakes. However, he continued at speed through the now clear left lane and slammed into me in the turn lane. His car impacted right where the passenger door joint is, right behind the front right tire.
I didn’t realize it at the time since nobody was seriously hurt, but the impact and my tensing up knocked my left sacrum out of alignment. When I went on my run the next day my left leg developed problems really quickly and I had to abort. I scheduled a chiropractor appointment and sure enough, I was out of whack. He corrected the problem I didn’t know I had. When I went out to run that Friday things went fairly well, but still weren’t perfect. I managed a decent run on Sunday too, but it’s obvious the correction didn’t take complete hold.
I’m going to have to go in for a follow up.
I’m glad it wasn’t worse.
