So the half-marathon was a bust. I got up to about 9 miles in training but I think I increased my mileage too quickly. I was doing great with the program at the start, but after having missed a few weeks of training because of a house move (stupid mistake, never stop the training!) I think I jumped back into it too hard. That combined with the toxic problem just knocked me out for good.

To make up for letting mom beat me I decided to up the ante to a full marathon by the next Dallas Whiterock marathon.

So, here’s my plan:

  1. Start slowly. Really slow. 1 mile per day, 4 days a week.
  2. Increase by 1 mile per week.
  3. When I get up to 3 miles do quarters to increase general speed.

Fairly simple to start. Since it can take up to 3 years to build up to marathon running ability I’m not going to rush into things. I get now why every program I read about running a marathon basically says: “this 18 week course is the bare minimum… you should have had more time… and definitely never do it with less”. Ok. So I’m going to start over with 52 weeks.
