Knee Ligaments

I went to visit Dr. Von Bergen yesterday to try and figure out why I’m still having continued leg problems. Since the problem seems to really only appear after I run a mile or more and fades over time I decided to head to his office a little early and go for a run before my appointment. It worked out well, except for me forgetting to bring my running towel and wearing way too much. I normally run in shorts and a couple tee-shirts when it gets cold but I was wearing sweat pants and a fleece … and I got waaay too hot and sweaty. Doh.

Still, we were able after much poking and prodding to figure out that the ligament on the inside of my right knee was aggravated and probably slowly being torn. It wasn’t happening fast so I wasn’t noticing it, but it was causing feedback problems all the way back up to my liver which was then not processing the toxins from running (I guess). So they instead built up in the muscle and really messed me up while running.

Unfortunately I think the fix is too late for me to be able to do the white rock half-marathon. I’m supposed to be cooling down and with only having been able to run a maximum distance of under two miles for close to three weeks now I’m afraid I just didn’t quite get there. I’m going to see how my run tomorrow goes. I’m not even sure my ligament can recover that quickly.

Fortunately there are several more marathons coming up so if I miss this one I should be able to participate in another one fairly soon.
