Gem Sweater

I couldn’t resist sharing this with all of you. Gem Sweater.

Crysis vs. Real LifeI’m going to bed way too late, but I just tried Crysis.

All I can say is: Wow. The graphics are truly stunning.

Ok now that I have slept some I have to come back and flesh out a little more detail. First, click on the image thumbnail to see a comparison of Crysis graphics to real life. Yes the graphics really are that good. I knew it was something special when I killed a patrol in the jungle and couldn’t find his dropped ak47 derivative in the weeds. The detail is so well done that it’s easy to miss things like grenades sitting on a table ready to be picked up… or the sniper scope that I apparently totally missed in the command center.

Knee Ligaments

I went to visit Dr. Von Bergen yesterday to try and figure out why I’m still having continued leg problems. Since the problem seems to really only appear after I run a mile or more and fades over time I decided to head to his office a little early and go for a run before my appointment. It worked out well, except for me forgetting to bring my running towel and wearing way too much. I normally run in shorts and a couple tee-shirts when it gets cold but I was wearing sweat pants and a fleece … and I got waaay too hot and sweaty. Doh.

CNN YouTube Debate

So tonight the CNN Republican Debate is on… in partnership with YouTube. I think the whole YouTube thing is a grand joke and unfortunately missed the last one with the democrats. What I think is a darn shame though is that the candidates don’t have to answer in the form of YouTube comments. That would have made it awesome instead of just mildly amusing. Here’s what we’re missing:

  • Hot Sex -> /watch?v=(Deleted)
  • what the heck?
  • everyone!!!add me to your friends list!!
  • need HIGH ratings to win this contest, please RATE 5 STARS on my latest video entitled “BULLSHIT!!!” (contest entry)

I recently realized that google accounts (gmail, calendar, documents, etc) uses SSL (https) for the login, but then switches over to a unsecure web connection after you login.

After a few minutes of searching I found the perfect tool if you’re running firefox: CustomizeGoogle

Install the addon then go to Tools > CustomizeGoogle Options and set every page you want secured to Secure (switch to https)

EFSEFS is the culprit. It turns out I’m one of the small percentage of people that have a problem with sucralose (splenda). It’s not bad in small doses, but I guess over time it built up to a toxic level in my system. We figured it out on Friday morning. I had run on Thursday not thinking that EFS could be the problem and that run was just awful. Of course I was also drinking EFS on the run.

I went out last Sunday to run 10 miles.

I managed to run 1.86 miles.

My legs were killing me. I tried walking for a bit but even that wasn’t working. Eventually my ankles were so swollen that my feet started going numb and I figured that’d be bad to continue running. I was pretty bummed since this was supposed to be one of my big runs and I had been prepping for it.

I have been looking into Windows Home Server because it has some nice features. I haven’t received my copy yet but a coworker picked one up last week and has been struggling through some challenges with remote control. The first problems of course come from WHS and the appropriate ISP and firewall rules… but the second was that anything other than Vista Ultimate or the business flavors don’t allow RDP.

Here’s an email I received this morning:

Ok. It took me a while but I got remote desktop
working to my Vista home premium box via the WHS remote access
website. Here it is in case you need it:

London MiniPicked up Hellgate: London this week. It was hard to turn down what is essentially Diablo3. Great great game… but it’s probably about a month too early.

It has a major memory leak, network errors and miscellaneous graphics glitches.

I’m still playing it despite all the problems. Yes, it’s that fun.

8.64

That’s my new max distance… 8.64miles. It took me almost 2.5 hours to complete, but I did it. I came back from the run and my wife opened the door and paused. She was staring at me with this bewildered expression and giant eyes. I didn’t realize it but I had been out there for so long that I had crusted salt from my sweat evaporating all over my shirt. I guess it looked kind of ominous. I guess she thought I was about to collapse on the floor. I didn’t though. I felt fine.
