Need new gear.
So one of the first things my book talks about is getting new gear. Fortunately in the case of running there isn’t exactly a lot that you really need to get started. Basically it comes down to this: A pair of good shoes. The rest can come later… like the nipple lube. Yes. Nipple lube.
The book talks about all the various types of shoes and things like overpronation, stability, motion control and cushioning. Aaaah… Cushioning… One I recognize. That’s like the Nike Air bubble… Right?
I mean the book explained all these things, but how do I know which I am? Overpronated? In need of motion control? The book gave some tips to detect arch, but pronation? How do I tell? Fortunately there’s a great resource here in the area with experienced runners that can help inexperienced noobs like me. I headed over and they watched me walk around barefoot for a while and asked a few questions. Some they didn’t ask but they were obvious enough that they didn’t need to… like “heavy frame” body type.
The end result is these, which I now proudly own:

By proudly own I mean really proudly own. I was really surprised by the degree of my reaction. What is it about going out and spending a moderate amount (~$100) on something this simple that has such a profound effect on my mood?
I’m off to an excellent start. Morale way up. Of course… the book predicts this. I’m sure it’s predicting when my morale is going to be low too.
